Drakes Island/Plymouth Sound 2012

Drakes Island/Plymouth Sound 2012

Oil on canvas

This is painted from the viewpoint at Devil’s Point looking out towards the breakwater with a rain squall tracking across the bay on the left of the image.

If I am to be categorised in a genre of art, I would consider myself primarily a landscape artist, with photography and painting being a constant. I have experimented over a period of twenty years to develop my own voice and add something to the genre rather than imitating or parodying. My initial career as a mason before entering art education involved restoring listed buildings and the influence from this close contact with buildings is clear within the subsequent focus and development of my work as an artist.
