Strayed Sheep 2012

Oil on canvas

This painting was inspired by a painting by Holman Hunt Our English Coasts (Strayed Sheep). This current, on-going body of work has developed over two years and is ‘notionally’ based on Plymouth Foreshore and Plymouth Sound. In both the paintings and the photographic project there is an intended duality and ambiguity. I have endeavoured to bring Holman Hunt’s (Pre-Raphaelite) ‘ethos’ of that painting into a contemporary context with the current issues that affect us all.
